Michal Mráz

Michal Mráz has been fascinated by cars since childhood – and it wasn’t just a childhood fascination. He got behind the wheel for the first time at the age of eleven, and it soon became clear to him that this wasn’t just a hobby, but a career path. Today, he runs Mráz Motorsport in Rynoltice and applies his motorsport experience to every job at the garage.

From a lad who used to go and watch races to running his own workshop

Michal recalls that he’d been interested in cars ever since he was a young boy going to watch hillclimb races. The turning point came at the age of eleven, when he got behind the wheel of a Škoda 120 for the first time in the garden – and at that moment, he decided he would devote himself fully to cars.

His journey took him through his studies in Mladá Boleslav and experience within Škoda Motorsport, where he learnt the importance of precision and a systematic approach. In 2017, he opened his own garage in Rynoltice and gradually built up a business based on a combination of practical experience, diagnostics and a job well done.

Motorsport: a school that makes no allowances

Motorsport has been part of Mráz Motorsport from the very beginning – they have been operating under the name Mráz Motorsport since 2016, when they focused primarily on racing activities. Only then did they naturally expand into general car servicing.

Michal himself competes in rallying – in the interview, he mentions that he drives a Škoda Favorit, a car that is now considered a legend. He also describes how a racing weekend “gets under your skin”: as a race approaches, he lives and breathes it, fine-tuning every detail in the workshop to ensure, above all, that the car crosses the finish line and the result is worthwhile.

In rallying, Michal has competed in a Škoda Favorit – for example, at the 2023 Kozojedy Rally, where the Mráz/Engová crew finished 19th overall and 5th in the A1400 class. He is also gaining experience in Germany, where a result can be found from the 2025 RSC Rallye Wildetaube as part of the Rallye Supercup: the crew of Michal Mráz and Aleš Karban, driving a Škoda Fabia R5, are listed in 3rd place overall.

For him, motorsport is not just a ‘weekend hobby’. It is a learning experience that informs every job: when a car is on the track, it doesn’t forgive mistakes – and he wants to apply the same approach in his day-to-day garage work. That is why Mráz Motorsport is built on the connection between two worlds: day-to-day work in a garage and experience from the racing world, which shape the way he thinks about technology and working on cars.

Results and the move towards more high-performance technology

He competed in the 2023 Kozojedy Rally, where he drove a Škoda Favorit with co-driver Lucie Engová.

In Germany, he has participated in the RSC Rallye Supercup – including a start at the 2024 RSC Rallye Wildetaube and a notable result at the 2025 RSC Rallye Wildetaube, where the crew of Michal Mráz / Aleš Karban finished 3rd overall in a Škoda Fabia R5.

What he takes away from the tracks to the service park

For him, races are primarily a lesson in reliability. When a car isn’t working on the track, there’s no getting round it – it shows immediately. He applies this way of thinking to everyday repairs too: first the cause, then the solution, and always with a view to ensuring the car works in the long term. (He also describes this approach in an interview in the context of his practical experience and work in motorsport.)
